First Announcement

THE UNIVERSITY OF GOROKA, DIVISION OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

The Division of Agriculture and Rural Development of the School of Science and Technology, the University of Goroka, Papua New Guinea, invites farmers, NGOs, service providers, extension officers and academics to an international conference on agricultural extension to be held at the University of Goroka, Papua New Guinea, on the 28th to 30th June 2016.

Overall ThemeAddressing Farmer Needs Now and Into the Future
It is commonly stated in Papua New Guinea that agricultural extension services have failed and this is a general perception. It is necessary to determine whether or not this is true and, if true, why has this happened and is it a serious problem. Ongoing and critical needs of farmers for up to date information and enhanced knowledge and skills must be assessed and these needs addressed. What is currently being done and by whom? Can this be evaluated? Consideration needs to be given to the various options that are or may be available to address the needs, drawing if appropriate on other Pacific and international experience.

First call for Abstracts – Abstracts of proposed papers addressing one or more of the following themes should be sent to the organizers by the 31st October 2015. Abstracts should be no more than 300 words and clearly set out the content and conclusions of the proposed paper. Acceptance or otherwise will be notified by the 31st January 2016.
